How
to get
started?

Prepare

You should collect your sample in the morning after an overnight fast of 12-14 hours (you can consume water and medication, as usual). To begin, hydrate, warm hands, and exercise:

  • Drink 16oz (or two full glasses) of water
  • Run your hands under warm water for 1 minute
  • Perform moderate exercise for 2 minutes, such as jumping jacks or any easy exercise you are comfortable with
Next Step

Sanitize

Select a finger for sample collection and ensure it’s sanitized before getting started:

  • We recommend using your “ring” finger as this finger is usually the least calloused
  • Open the alcohol pad and clean the tip of your finger (on your non-dominant hand). Let your finger air dry for 10 seconds
  • Without touching the center of the card, remove the collection device and place it face-up on the table
  • Twist and remove the blue cap on your lancet. It is now ready to use
Next Step

Collect

Be patient and take your time! This process should only take a few minutes:

  • Place the tip of the lancet slightly off-center against the pad of your finger (typically ring finger)
  • Hold the lancet steady and press down firmly until you hear a *click* then release after 1-2 seconds
  • Massage (don’t squeeze) your finger to increase blood flow
  • Allow the first small drop of blood to free fall on the alcohol swab before filling the collection device
  • Stretch your arm down towards the table (gravity is your friend!) and, without touching your finger to the card, allow drops of blood to fall freely onto the box on the card
  • Place 4-6 large drops in the square to the left, or as many as it takes to fill the card past the first line. It may take several minutes to get enough blood. It helps to massage your lower arm with your opposite hand
  • If blood doesn’t pass the first line, our lab will not be able to analyze your sample
  • If you weren’t able to fill up the card with one prick, repeat above steps and give a new finger a prick with the extra lancet
  • Once the card is full, apply the bandage

Here is what to look for:

Perfect Sample: An ideal sample will be filled past the first line of each strip.

Not enough blood: Massage (don’t squeeze) a few more drops from the base of your finger to your second knuckle. Use another lancet, if needed.

Blood on wrong end: Do not return your sample. Call 855-6RECURO (855-673-2876)

Next Step

Dry

Now that you have collected your sample, let it dry before shipping:

  • Air dry your sample for 2 hours on a flat surface, before placing it in the foil envelope
Next Step

Return

A few steps are required before you can ship your sample back to the lab. Make sure to put your sample in the mail the same day you collect it

  • Put your sample in the sample bag. Do not remove the contents of the bag
  • Once your sample is secured in the sample bag, place it in the return mailer and close it
  • Place the prepaid return mailer in your mailbox or drop it off at a nearby USPS location today for return shipping to the lab

Note: you do not need to write in any information on the paper ADx Card – we’ve got it taken care of!

What’s Next

Once you put your sample in the mail, here’s what to expect:

  • 3-5 Business Days: The lab will receive and process your sample
  • 7-10 Business Days: We will notify you when your test results are available so you can schedule your Primary Care appointment
